

The Great American Cleanup is coming up March 1st and runs through May 31st.
Keep Greene Beautiful is planning this spring to improve the community by beautifying parks and recreation areas, cleaning streams and creeks, promoting recycling, picking up litter, planting trees and flowers, and conducting educational programs and litter-free events.
Keep Greene Beautiful is looking for churches, clubs, organizations, businesses and industries to partner in the Great American Cleanup. The local sponsors are Greeneville Dental Associates, Holston United Methodist Home for Children and Wal-Mart Transportation.
Groups that collect litter will receive trash bags and coupons for a free cases of Nestle Pure Life Purified Water.

Household Hazardous Waste Collection

The state's Household Hazardous Waste Collection returns to Greene County Saturday, April 10 providing a free and safe way of disposing household hazardous waste.
The collection will be held from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of Hal Henard Elementary School in Greeneville. The school is located on East Vann Road.
Small amounts of latex paint may be dried until solid and thrown away in the regular trash instead of bringing it to the collection. Alkaline batteries no longer contain mercury and therefore should be thrown away in the trash.
Items Accepted
Common items from the house that will be accepted include: art/craft supplies, rechargeable batteries, chemistry sets, moth balls, drain cleaners, medicines/drugs, floor cleaners, photo chemicals, metal polish and furniture polish, and oven cleaner.
Items from the yard that will be accepted include: fertilizer, herbicides, muriatic acid, pest strips, pool chemicals, pesticides, rodent killer and insect spray.
Items from the workbench include: degreaser, lead-based paint, thinner, sealant, solvent, stain, wood stripper and rust/wood preservatives.
Items from the garage include: antifreeze, brake fluid, carburetor cleaner, gasoline, engine degreaser, kerosene and car batteries.
Electronic items include: computer monitors and televisions (no console televisions), CPU's, all computer peripherals and fluorescent bulbs up to 8 feet in length.
Items NOT Allowed
The following items are not allowed during the collection:
No items used in commerical business, schools, farms and churches, non-household items, radioactive materials (including smoke detectors), medical waste (including needles) and explosives or ammunition. Tires will not be accepted. No empty containers of any kind, automotive gas tanks, laboratory chemicals, or cooking oil.
Keep Greene Beautiful Golf Tournament

The Keep Greene Beautiful Golf Tournament will be held Thursday, April 29, at Nolichucky View Golf Club. A shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
The format will be a four player Captain's Tournament with three flights, which will be determined at the conclusion of play. Handicaps and the 6, 5, 4, 3 rule will not be used.
The deadline for registration is April 27.
The entry fee is $100 per player or $400 per team. This includes lunch, light snacks, green fees, carts, complimentary beverages during play and the awards reception.
A putting contest will kick off the tournament at 11:00 a.m.
Contests will include the putting contest, closest to the pin and longest drive and a hole in one contest.
Proceeds of the golf tournament will help pay the cost of Keep Greene Beautiful educational projects.

Free Disposal Day

Greeneville and Greene County residents are reminded of the free disposal day that is scheduled at the Greeneville/Greene County Transfer Station and Demolition Landfill located at 1555 Old Stage Road on Saturday, May 8th form 8 a.m. to noon, held in conjunction with Keep Greene Beautiful's "Great American Cleanup" efforts.
The free disposal is for households only. Home construction and demolition will be accepted. Items NOT accepted include tires, electronic items such as computers, televisions, etc., and any type of liquids or fluids. Please note that no commerical or business waste will be accepted.
It is hoped that residents will take advantage of this opportunity to clean up around their property and clean basements and garages to rid themselves of clutter and unwanted items. By cleaning up property, local residents are all doing their part to Keep Greene Beautiful.
